Although I’ve been taking photographs since the early 1990s, I hadn’t made any of them visible to the public until January 2009 when, at the encouragement of another photographer, I took the hesitant first step of uploading my daily jaunts ‘round a frozen lake to Flickr.

I called that first set Mid-December, all of the shots taken on a single day in the same location.

The winter motif expanded in Submerging/submerged; for my third and final Flickr set, titled Excursions, I reached back into my photographic past, scanning shots taken over the previous decade, while continuing to record my ongoing visions of the American West.

Taking a further step, in March 2009, I launched a photo blog: Centuries Since the Day, the name being my paraphrase of Emily Dickinson’s lines, “Since then ‘tis centuries, and yet each/Feels shorter than the day.”

The first series, “Late afternoon light, early March,” begins here. New (and old) pictures will be added, if not daily, then a few at a time throughout the week.
